If we are going to visit the famous Pedra Longa of Baunei, we can take a nice walk nearby and visit Su Stabilimentu. It is a short and pleasant walk, in easy and flat terrain, with impressive views.
The lithographic quarry Su Stabilimentu was inaugurated at the beginning of the 20th century by the mining district of Iglesias, where a particular variety of limestone was extracted, called lithographic stone, considered the most important in Sardinia. The site is located 250 meters above sea level, from where you can see the needle of Pedralonga a few hundred meters in a straight line.
In the quarry, ornamental stones of high quality competitive with those of the exterior were extracted. Much of the lithographic limestone was used as a decorative coating and in the construction of the cobbles of the city of art and especially in London.
In 2014, the municipal administration of Baunei made important interventions for the environmental recovery of the quarry, which between 1909 and 1914 was one of the largest industrial sites in the Ogliastra area.
And what else can we find on our walk? Of course, we can see several goats (probably owned by a shepherd) and at the end of the road, which ends in front of an imposing wall, it is very common to find climbers, so frequent in the area.
We propose a game in the following two photos … Where are the climbers? ?
This is more difficult, huh?
The sunset light, always beautiful …
Comment of the tourist: it is advisable to leave the car at the beginning of the road, on one side of the road or next to the sign, to enjoy the ride although it is possible to arrive by car until the end.
